Sussex Partners is proud to announce that it has become a signatory to the UN Principles for Responsible Investment. The Principles, which promote the incorporation of ESG factors into investment decision making, were developed by investors for investors and by implementing them, signatories commit to developing a more sustainable global financial system.

Sussex Partners has been involved in ESG investing since 2013, when we first advised on the development of a hedge fund portfolio with an ESG filter for a family office. We believe that ESG factors, including Impact analysis and, in particular, the 17 Sustainable Development Goals that underpin the UNPRI, should be part of any well-constructed investment and risk management process.

In the lead up to the COP26 world leaders’ climate change summit, Sussex Partners begins a new series of educational commentaries for ESG Investor. In the introductory article to a five-part series, Patrick Ghali touches on some of the challenges for investors seeking to allocate to ESG opportunities. Issues such as liquidity, factor choices and the lack of commonly defined and accepted industry standards for ESG investing will each be explored in later articles in this monthly series.
